The Global Urban Futures Project (GUF), a learning network of scholars and activists within the New School, was created to discuss and research the drivers of these growing concerns, and to contribute to the conversation about urban policy. The GUF encourages an approach to urban issues that considers the economy, the environment, and society jointly, not separately – and fosters ambitious new ideas and solutions.

The GUF was actively involved in the preparatory process leading up to the United Nations Third Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III), which took place in Quito, Ecuador in October 2016.  The research project, titled the “Habitat Commitment Project,” successfully raised awareness of the importance to monitor global commitments in order to hold governments accountable for their actions, and inactions.
