About

EngenderHealth implements the AIDS, Population and Health Integrated Assistance (APHIA II) in Nyanza Province in Kenya.  APHIA-II, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is designed to contribute substantively to the United States Government and Government of Kenya goals in HIV and AIDS, TB, and to a more limited extent, Reproductive Health/Family Planning (RH/FP), malaria and maternal and child health (Maternal Child Health). The activity objective of APHIA-II is Healthier behaviors and increased use of high quality HIV/AIDS, RH/FP and MCH services. Within APHIA-II/Nyanza the project supports community-based dialogue groups and school-based peer education.

As APHIA-II draws to a close after 5 years, EngenderHealth is interested in evaluating the outreach and community education through dialogue groups and peer education. Quantitative and qualitative data have been collected on each dialogue group and peer education session. Monthly data have been collected on number of participants per session by topic discussed, and information on key issues discussed, questions asked, problems/challenges faced, and recommendations for improvements and new activities.

EngenderHealth is interested in working with GPIA Practicum students to analyze these data.  The students would report the findings of these analyses in an evaluation technical brief that would contribute to APHIA-II/Nyanza’s closeout project report. There is quantitative and qualitative data, and the primary analysis needed is a qualitative analysis of the monthly reports, with a thematic analysis to see issues discussed, problems faced, and solutions/recommendation to address these. The deliverable will be assembling findings together with the quantitative data and writing a technical brief to outline the results.

Students would work closely with EngenderHealth staff in New York, and would also work virtually with APHIA-II/Nyanza staff who are located in Kisumu, Kenya.
