Mary’s research and advocacy seeks to address men’s roles in gender equality, violence prevention, and women’s empowerment.

Mary RobbinsCareer Path: Mary served as lead Program Officer of Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE) programming at the NGO Promundo in Rio de Janiero, Brazil from 2012–2015. Additionally, Mary recently collaborated with the International Labor Organization on economic and social policy analysis and research in Southeast Asia and Africa, and with the Florida Institute for Health Innovation on project and grant design.

Faculty and Peer Collaboration: Mary states, “The guidance of [Professors] Michael Cohen, Sakiko Fukuda-Parr, and Peter Lucas was the foundation of my nuanced, critical approach to development at SGPIA. Michael and Sakiko taught and trained me in how to critically analyze policies and interventions within economic development and human rights theory. Peter showed me the importance of patience and presence in the field during the International Field Program in Brazil. Equally essential to my growth as an adult and student while at SGPIA, I would credit my peers who pushed me academically and personally to become a better practitioner and researcher.”
