2012, Media and Culture Concentration

President of the M-Lisada (Music, Life Skills and Destitution Alleviation) Africa Foundation

Rochelle founded The M-Lisada Africa Foundation after working with a children’s home in Uganda during the International Field Program.

Academic Studies at SGPIA: Rochelle credits SGPIA’s flexibility in allowing students to cater coursework to her individual interests and needs. Rochelle’s studies focused on media and culture classes—Rochelle says she still applies what she learned at SPGIA to her daily work at the M-Lisada Africa Foundation, a Non Government Organization she was inspired to start after her experience in the International Field Program in Uganda.

Current Work: Embodying a New School value of putting knowledge to action, Rochelle developed the idea for a children’s home that places an emphasis on using arts education to help improve the children’s confidence and livelihoods. Since it’s founding, the M-Lisada has reclaimed 400 children from the streets, providing them with shelter, counseling and support.
