From Waste to Resource – Informal Recycling at the New School

This semester, a group of students from the EPSM program at Milano and the Mailman school of Public Health at Colombia are conducting a research study to analyze the waste profile here at the New School. The study is funded by the New York State Pollution Prevention Institute as part of its annual R&D Student Competition.  The research is focused on measuring levels of salvageable and financially valuable material (paper, recyclable plastics, metals) in the New School waste stream.  Under the guidance of faculty advisor Konstantine Rountos, and in partnership with New School facilities management, the team will work with volunteers to analyze waste during three sampling events.
