Members of TEDC and The New School were in Austin, Texas for the 2015  SXSW Eco, a space for business leaders, innovators, investors, and designers to come together and help advance drive for environmental, economic, and social change. From October 5-7, Ana Baptista, Associate Director of the Tishman Environment and Design Center and Assistant Professor of Professional Practice at the Milano School of International Affairs, Management, and Urban Policy, attended the event as a judge for the “Place by Design Resilience” public space design competition. Baptista also highlighted how waste negatively affects the most marginalized groups around the world by teaching a pop-up course titled “Trash Talk 101: Working Towards a Zero Waste World.” In addition to the amazing contributions Baptista gave to the SXSW Eco event, she also spoke on the “Place By Design Town Hall: The Future of Public Space” panel to discuss the potential public space to influence community engagement, public health, creativity, social equity, and more.
