Assistant Professor of Peace & Conflict Studies and Geography at Colgate University 

Teo was the 2006 recipient of the Fulbright Student Research Grant for study in Colombia and obtained his PhD in Geography from the University of California, Berkeley.

Teo Ballve¦üPast Work: Teo’s journalism has been featured in The New York Times, The Nation, The Progressive and Z Magazine. His academic research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals such as Anitpode, Geoforum, and Environment and Planning D: Society and Space.

Current Work:  Teo’s academic and journalistic work focuses on illicit networks, natural resource conflicts, and violence, with a regional focus on Latin America. His current research project, “Territorial Masquerades: Frontier State Formations in Northwest Colombia,” examines how the country’s combatants engage in unexpected forms of state-making as they vie for territorial control.

In their own words: Teo says, “Without a doubt, I wouldn’t be where I am in both my personal and professional life were it not for SGPIA.” Teo believes that SGPIA was the perfect place for him to maintain a foot in both professional and academic worlds as it is a welcoming intellectual community of engaged scholarship that promotes more rigorous and critical investigation of world affairs.
