This past week Dr. Erin McCandless on behalf of GPIA participated in an Experts Meeting on “Shaping the State 
through the Social Contract in Situations of Conflict and Fragility,” held at Glen Cove, in New York.
The New School’s GPIA was a co-sponsor of the event hosted by UNDP, alongside the University of Denver, the Harvard Humanitarian Institute, SIDA, NORAD, Oxfam, and UN Women, amongst others.
Dr. McCandless presented on a plenary panel “Inclusion and Legitimacy in Political Settlements: How Inclusive is Inclusive Enough”, and in a working group on Non-state Actors and the Social Contract. She presented her findings from research that she conducted with GPIA students and former students: Zoe Meroney, Darya Shaikh, Ayu Rahmawati, Nicolas Rodrigues, Laurent Nicourt and Lilia Minkov.
